To Lake Louise

Woke to very cloudy day, looks like rain all day.  We were lucky though, there was a little rain while we were driving however it seemed to hold off while we were walking around.
Called into the Skunk Cabbage walk first.  Skunk cabbage is a favourite food for bears (closely followed by middle aged Australian females), there was heavy undergrowth and a beautiful running river alongside, just right for bears.  Secrets for bear country – make plenty of noise so you don’t surprise them, Pam sang a number of inane, off-key songs all the way around, I thought a bear may even attack to stop the noise?
Next was the Cedar Walk, all the way along a boardwalk through cedar and hemlock forests with trees over 500 years old.  As we have found all over Canada, the national parks are very well kept and the walks are very informative.
Next was one of the jewels of Canada, Lake Louise.  The weather hadn’t changed much so there was a heavy blanket of cloud hanging low over the lake.  The lake was the most beautiful colour, and with the green pines, the brown rocky mountains to contrast it; the colours were a standout.  It seems that everytime the angle changed, the shade of blue and green changed too.  The sun did try to come out a couple of times and the colours changed again.  An amazing scene.
We then went for a short drive to Moraine Lake, I’m not sure if this lake is more beautiful than Lake Louise, if not it’s a close second.  We climbed up a large stone hill next to the lake which had been formed by rockslides over hundreds of years.  The views were also magnificent as you will see in the photos.
One downside with this region. When you stay in the area you pay through the nose, we are staying in a box with no fridge, no TV and the wifi isn’t strong enough to reach our room.  Maybe another red wine will solve all our problems?  I’ll be going down to the lounge room to upload all my photos, maybe order another bottle of red.
You are all very lucky also; we have ordered sunshine for tomorrow, so all the photos you see now will be replicated tomorrow with the sun out!

Pam on the bear trail...or maybe the bears on the Pam trail?

The river flowing along Skunk cabbage Walk - should be bears in there.

The road...the weather, the mountains.

Cedar Walk.

Beautiful old trees, stunning model.

Enough of the photos!

Pam reading the signs, while the tree behind her looks like it may end it all.

The rich people taking the train.

Our first look at Lake Louise, lucky for you - not our only photo.

A frosty 3 degrees at the lakes edge, may go ice skating tomorrow.

The canoe hire shed at the lake.

The shed from another angle.

Can anyone get sick of this view?

Where the rich people are staying tonight, we have a shed down the back.

I booked us a room there promise!!  They mustn't have got my email....

No choice but to do a selfie.

Moraine lake.

No fish here, just water, mountains and reflections.

More views, the start of the rock pile we climbed.

Colours changing by the minute.

Those people up the top, that will be us soon.

The climb begins as the sun comes out.

Higher and higher.

Are we there yet?

Just around the corner, promise.

Worth the walk.

That's a postcard.

And that's another.

The obligatory selfie.

May be even colder up here.

Last one I promise.

Oops, maybe this is the last one.

Definitely the last one.

Caught a couple of squirrel at Moraine Lake.

Much easier to photograph than their Vancouver cousins.

  2. The reason we take so many photos and commit them to a blog is we're afraid we will forget, this method will (I hope) refresh our memory. xxx Vernon and Pam
