To Kelowna

Woke to a cool, wet, foggy day in Vancouver.  Packed the car for the next stage of our holiday through Western Canada.  This is the good bit...the road trip....over the Canadian Rockies...Pam will love it she said.
Raining quite a bit as we headed east and up into the mountains.  Got to the town of Hope in the mountains about 100 kilometres east of Vancouver and the rain stopped and the sun came out.  We'd already had a glimpse of towering mountains in the Coquihalla Valley.  The shaped conifers formed a neat pattern on the mountain side, broken by the occasional yellowing elm or maple tree, between conifer forests there were sheer, smooth rock cliffs with long thin waterfalls tracing down into the creeks below.
Once through the Coquihalla Valley we were on the Thompson Plateau which is a grassed area with rolling hills which would look a picture under snow.  We know it snows here, there are plenty of signs cautioning about snow chains, avalanches, snow plows and icy roads.  Very exhausting drive, through the fog, then on long wide roads for the rest of the way with almost no traffic.  Only 350 kilometres but it was good to get to Kelowna.
Into Kelowna at about 2pm and found the motel then went into town for a late lunch (Clam chowder, grilled chicken sliders and some Poutines), walk along the banks of the Okanagan Lake.  Call into a shopping centre to pick up supplies for tea. Then home just before 6 for a rest.

Long wide road towards the Rockies.

Thompson Plateau grasslands.

Bridge over Okanagan Lake seperating the towns of West Kelowna and Kelowna.

The lady and the lake.

The lake and marina.

Park against the lake.

Roses in the park with the lake in between the trees.

Living on the edge on the hills surrounding Kelowna.
