Port of call Icy Strait Point

Went to bed last night with the rocking of the ship in the Northern pacific Ocean.  Not enough to roll me out of bed, just soothing enough to let me drift off.  Woke to a cloudy mist morning, went for a walk around the deck before dawn and watched as the sun broke through and rainbows formed at all the right moments…just wondering where they were when we were at the casino last night?

Breakfast and a shore trip for a bear hunt this morning in Icy Strait Point.  As you could guess the temperature was a little icy but not unpleasant.  The Captain claimed it was 13 degrees air temperature and 11 degrees water temperature.  Not sure that is entirely accurate, but he is the Captain so who is going to argue?

Warmed up as the day wore on and got away on our tour at about 12.  Saw seals, deer, chipmunks, bald eagles, salmon and just about every other animal listed in the Canadian bush, unfortunately the brown bears hadn’t heard we were coming so they had a little holiday, not to worry, maybe next time.  Wandered the little settlement here with craft shops, burnt some wood chips in the fire as an ancient ceremony to be a part of the community, lunch, another walk along the beach then home by about 4.
Another half a dozen cocktails of the day, 27 beers, maybe a red wine, some salmon for tea, maybe about then it is bed time....good night, see you tomorrow!!
Our constant companion during the trip, another cruise ship in our wake.

Early morning rainbow.

Just early morning.

Little windy, little cold coming into Icy Strait Point.
Ship sailing towards to dawn.

Just a little icy in Icy Strait Point.

Lots of pictures of our ship from the shore.

Associating with the native craft.

All cold at Icy Strait Point.

On our way to the bear search.

The heart of bear country...allegedly.

Perhaps down this path?

When you go out in the woods today......

You're in for a big surprise......

The prime position, plenty of salmon in the creek, no bears to eat them though.

The deer weren't afraid of bears either.

The best we could do....one carved wooden bear.

Good spot for lunch.

Cold water...cold hands.

Walking back from lunch along the shore line.

Towards our ship shining late afternoon.

Icy Strait Point from the pier.

And from the top deck of the ship.

  1. Well, when I was saying you can do as little or as much as you like whilst cruising, yes, consuming copious amounts of alcohol does seem to fit right in - as you're experiencing! Can't believe you never saw a bear in the woods! And ok, ok, we'll go to the casino here and see if we can win!
Life here is pretty much the same - busy and looks like we could get some well needed rain today before its supposed to be 32 deg tomorrow! Enjoy, enjoy xxo
