Broadway show and tennis

After three very late nights we overslept this morning, 10am we woke up.  Had to be in town at 2pm for Jersey Boys on Broadway so it wasn’t a disaster, just limited what we could have done this morning.  I think we needed the sleep though and we feel much better for it today.

Got the bus/subway combination in to town with no hitches at all.  Had a Starbucks coffee for breakfast in Times Square, did a bit of shopping, bought some jeans and stuff.  Got to the theatre and sat for nearly 3 hours enthralled with the music, dance, stage set and lighting.  It was an absolutely amazing performance and thoroughly enjoyed every minute.  Sat next to a bloke and his boyfriend from Baltimore.   They get the 3 hour bus up regularly to watch shows, he was horrified we had McDonalds yesterday and encouraged us to eat some real New York food before we left.

Took his advice and had a hot dog for ‘lunch’ at 4.30pm – allegedly the ‘Best Hot Dog in New York’, we even have photos to prove it.   Had a little rain today, very overcast but clearing later.

Decided to get the train home, unbeknown to us we got on the express train and sailed straight past our stop.  Ended up just near the tennis, we walked back, past the tennis and home to have a shower and changed, then walk back for the night session at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Just back from the tennis, because it rained this morning all the games were delayed, consequently the day session didn’t finish till 9.30pm.  Got to watch the Leyton Hewitt games and left there when he looked like winning and headed for the centre court (Arthur Ashe Stadium).  Pam will tell you we were removed because I was causing a disturbance, nobody would be believing that though?

Watched the Andy Murray game, an easy win for him.  We are in the ‘nose bleed’ section but still great to be there and watch the game.  Had a late tea of fish and chips, had a beer and wine – all up these small items cost more than the tennis tickets….don’t think we’ll be getting drunk or overweight at the tennis.

Walked home at about midnight, didn’t hang around to see the ladies game at Arthur Ashe, we’d never wake up in the morning.  It was a 20 minute walk home from the centre.  Pam wasn’t worried because earlier I told her, I said, Pam, Pam I said, ain’t nothin’ ever done happened in Queens after midnight man........ just some deserted streets filled with car bodies and frightened Policemen…..she believed me and we got home easy!

Pam in the theatre before we were told to put the camera away.

  3. John, not sure the home grown Police are up to it, they seem to vanish into the dark just when the going gets tough!

  4. Hi there - I'm reading this all backwards haha! So after today I'll have caught up and be going forwards with you (hopefully). Glad you enjoyed Jersey Boys. We saw it in Melbourne a few months ago and absolutely loved it - perhaps not quite the same as seeing it on Broadway! Keep enjoying. Luv Deb & John xox
